Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 July 2026

MarineAware (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal data when you visit our websites at marineaware.com and live.marineaware.com or contact us, in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

MarineAware is an AI-native maritime analytics firm, operating on a remote-first basis with a presence in London and Singapore. For the purposes of UK data protection law, MarineAware is the data controller for personal data processed through our websites. You can contact us about this policy or your data at contact@marineaware.com.

The personal data we collect

  • Information you provide — such as your name, email address, organisation and the content of your message when you use our contact form or email us.
  • Technical and usage data — such as IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited, collected automatically when you use our websites, including through cookies or privacy-respecting analytics.

We do not intentionally collect special category data, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

How we use your data and our lawful bases

  • To respond to your enquiries and provide our services — on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating our business, the performance of a contract with you, or taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To operate, secure and improve our websites — on the basis of our legitimate interests in running a safe, functional service.
  • To send you information or updates you have requested — on the basis of your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

Cookies and analytics

Our websites use only the cookies necessary to function and, where enabled, privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how the sites work.

Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with trusted service providers who help us run our business (for example hosting, email and analytics providers), who process it only on our instructions and under appropriate contracts, and where we are required to do so by law or to protect our legal rights.

International transfers

Given our presence in London and Singapore and our use of global service providers, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the UK. Where it is, we ensure an appropriate safeguard is in place — such as a UK adequacy decision, or the International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above, to maintain business records, and to comply with our legal obligations, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • be informed about how your data is used;
  • access a copy of your personal data;
  • request rectification of inaccurate data;
  • request erasure of your data (the “right to be forgotten”);
  • restrict or object to our processing;
  • data portability; and
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@marineaware.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by law.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we handle your data, please contact us first so we can try to resolve them. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s supervisory authority for data protection, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above shows when it was last revised; material changes will be reflected on this page.
